Our Technology

Repaid creates innovative solutions to process complex waste flows in an environmentally friendly and profitable manner.

Repaid is ‘diaper’ spelled backwards.

This wordplay perfectly matches technology that completely breaks down diapers and makes them reusable. On this page, we explain how it works.

Our method

This is how it works

1

Cleaning and breaking down

After collection, the mass of used diapers is cleaned and broken down into individual raw materials through thermal pressure hydrolysis. High pressure and temperatures efficiently destroy pathogens and medications without the use of harmful chemicals.

2

Reusing plastics

After steam treatment, the diaper mass is reduced to a slurry of harmless organic material. Plastics float to the top for easy screening and collection. After washing and drying, the plastic is transported to a buyer who uses it to produce high-quality plastic granulate.

3

Centrifuging and digesting

Once the plastics are recovered, the slurry containing the organic material proceeds to the centrifuge. This process step turns the organic material into a fiber cake suitable for use in a digester. The result: biogas for electricity and compost that can be used as a soil improver because it is free from harmful substances.

4

Super Absorbent Polymers

Repaid uses an evaporator to isolate the super absorbent polymers from the residual water. This material can be used as a binder in construction materials. What remains is clean residual water.

5

CO2 savings and efficiency

Thanks to the Repaid recycling process, valuable raw materials no longer end up in incinerators but can be efficiently recovered for use in high-quality applications. Moreover, every ton of diaper waste processed by a Repaid installation results in a CO2 saving of an impressive 964 kilograms.

Modular design

The strength of Repaid's diaper recycling technology lies in the modular nature of the installation. We have utilized existing techniques that integrate seamlessly with each other. This facilitates integration into existing waste-to-energy plants and gives the installations their robust character.

Operational at industrial scale

Repaid features patented technology that is already operational at industrial scale. This is excellent news given the significant CO2 savings achieved by this technology. Moreover, large-scale diaper waste recycling represents low-hanging fruit in terms of positive environmental impact and improved returns for waste-to-energy plants.

Innovation platform

Our technology is always advancing. With over 40 years of experience in the recycling industry, Repaid uniquely understands that diaper recycling technology will continue to improve over the next decade. Since our technology is available under license to waste processors, all future innovations will be made available to existing installations. Consequently, every facility built in collaboration with Repaid is future-proof.
